So... I set out for Colorado in my blue '71 Maverick packed to the hilt, during the national blizzard of '88-'89, on bald tires across country I've never driven before, with a cat!  What a trip.  I did a lot of thinking, a lot of singin to John Denver.  I wish I had a picture of that car, I loved that car.  I just drove, there was no sight seeing , I drove until I couldn't stay awake anymore before I'd stop..... although in the big picture, it's not that.

I made it to DannEK's house.  It was very awkward seeing him again after the way we parted ways.  But I was grateful for his open invitation, cat and all.  I was glad to be at my destination, glad to be there, glad that this leg of the new adventure was over.  I only stayed with DannEK for a couple of weeks.  It was temporary, I knew that, but I didn't know how temporary!!!  Where was I to go?  See, he was in the middle of a nasty divorce and there were children involved, so I understood completely.

call a spade a spadeI went to an auction, and listened.  Evenually I overheard these two ranchers talking, one needed someone who could watch his place, answer the phones, and feed a few animals.  When the oppertunity presented itself, I introduced myself and mentioned that I had overheard.... and I needed a place to live.   We went out to his place, he showed me breifly what I'd be doing, where I'd be staying, and said to come out tomorrow to move in and start.  Done - moving again and have a new job.  The next day I moved to Cedaredge.

The rancher ( I don't remember his name) told me to go ahead and look around, he'd send someone out soon to show me the ropes.  I was in the tack room, and the light through the door disappeared.  Just like in a western, there stood a genuine Cowboy, Clinton D. McKinnon. That too is another story..... I stayed there only a week or so if even that long.  Clint had called his mom and explained - - something - - and before I knew it I was moving in with Clint's family in Delta.  They had a little ranch there.  Michelle (mom), Yvonne, Joleen, Billy, and Bob.  Michelle treated me just like one of the family, like one of the kids.  She taught me how to ride, how to groom, how to train, pack paniards, and how to ride with a pack string.
